BELGIUM - 2026
BELGIUM:
This part of the trip has turned into one of our favourite country drives so far. There’s something about Belgium that really stays with you—especially around the Ypres / Flanders region. It’s not just the scenery, it’s the weight of history that sits quietly over everything.
What really struck us is how, after the wars, most of the allied soldiers went back home to their own countries and lives… but Belgium had to stay and rebuild from the ground up. Whole towns, farms, and fields had to be cleared and brought back to life. So many of the homes you see now are just over 100 years old—rebuilt with resilience after so much devastation. It makes you look at the landscape differently, knowing what it’s been through.

One of the standout experiences for us was the Passchendaele Museum. It was incredibly well done—not just informative, but interactive in a way that really brings history to life. You don’t just read about it, you feel it, and it gives you a much deeper appreciation for what happened here.

On a lighter note, we’ve also been soaking up the charm of Bruges, drifting along its canals and taking in what feels like a postcard at every turn. And Ghent has its own magic too—the architecture is stunning, with that perfect mix of old-world character and lively atmosphere.

And of course, we’ve been doing our best to fully “immerse” ourselves in the local culture… which mainly means enjoying plenty of Belgian chocolate, incredible food, and sampling a beer or two along the way.
It’s been one of those places that quietly surprises you—beautiful, reflective, and full of stories.
